Welcome to AYB-AUC
Alashanek Ya Balady (AYB) is the community service entity of the Student Union of the American University in Cairo. AYB’s aim is to develop the society of Ain Al Sira, expand the horizon of the average citizens and families there, and finally provide opportunities for those who want to improve their situations. We develop these people educationally, economically and socially through programs specifically targeting different sectors of people who are in need of different skills.
Additionally AYB aims at initiating a spark within the youth of the country to make a change. We aim at enhancing the sense of civic responsibility within the AUC student body, and making them believe in the future of a better country; As well as making them aware of the majority of the Egyptian population that lives in poverty.
Therefore in the Year 2008 – 2009, the development of Ain El Sira and the enhancement of AUC’s civic responsibility is our duty. We will be held accountable in front of God, ourselves, and in front of the whole world for this role. Read more

MacJannet Prize for Global Citizenship
AYB won the third place of the first annual MacJannet Prize for Global Citizenship among 67 nominations from 40 universities in 19 countries and was awarded $1000.
The MacJannet Prize recognizes exceptional student civic engagement initiatives based in Talloires Network member universities around the world and contributes financially to their ongoing public service efforts.
